The National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP 2026) is the prestigious first stage of selection for the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in India. Organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), the NSEP exam identifies the brightest young physics minds across the country. Preparing for NSEP requires an in-depth conceptual grasp and systematic problem-solving rigor.
Total Marks: 216 Marks | Total Questions: 60 | Duration: 2 Hours (8:30 AM – 10:30 AM)
Part A1 (48 Questions): Single option correct MCQs. +3 Marks for correct answer, -1 Mark penalty for incorrect response.
Part A2 (12 Questions): One or more than one option correct MCQs. +6 Marks only if all correct options are marked, with no negative marking.
The syllabus broadly covers standard Class 11 and 12 Physics (CBSE/State Boards), but questions demand much higher Olympiad-level analytical depth. Major areas include Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics & Fluid Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Wave Optics, and Modern Physics.
